Registration is underway at Water Street Glassworks, located at 140/142 Water Street, in the Benton Harbor Arts District. Students get their first experiences with the exciting medium of glass are then ready for more advanced study in Beginning Glassblowing 2 and 3 in following weeks. Glassblowing classes for teens are also offered on Wednesdays after school beginning April 22. The one-day workshop, A Taste of Glass takes place on Sunday, May 3 and is taught by Jerry Catania, Carolyn O’Hearn and Becky Wehmer. Students try three glass topics: paperweights, fusing and bead making. Once you get “a taste” you may want to follow further study in one or more of the topics. No previous experience is required. Instructors Becky Wehmer and Angela Caldwell teach a one-day workshop, Build-a-Bead Necklace April 25 in which you can learn to make your own glass beads and wear them home on a necklace of your own creation. Multi-level Beadmaking for ages 13 and up, offered May 9 and 10 is a great Mother’s Day activity. Students learn the basic techniques of making glass beads using a tabletop torch and shape mold and decorate molten glass into beads. A very popular workshop Glass & Metal Sculpture for the Garden is taught by Jerry Catania and Lou Mark, May 15-17, Friday evening through Sunday. THIRDSTONE NEWS AND NOTES - APRIL IS NOT SPRING IN MICHIGAN EDITION

THIRDSTONE NEWS AND NOTES: SPECIAL NEVERGONNABESPRING EDITION

("CHEETAHS N'VELVEETAS" by Bruce Joel Cutean, 2009, digital dementia series)
Hello All!
Here's all the latest issue coverin' the news from ThirdStone-Land in Funnville n'beyond. Itza big 'un!

New ThirdStoned adventures are in the works. May will bring not one but two special ThirdStone exhibition events. As the former ThirdStone Gallery lifeform dissipates into the ethers of memory, the new "ThirdStone Art & Design" continues to develop its new shape(s). My new curatorial project is underway, my long-delayed music CD project and, my new ThirdStone websites are under development currently. I'll also have news soon as to when and where our first outings in other cities will be taking place. I have to say how refreshing and revitalizing it is for me to no longer be tied to a shop every day. While I do miss that (and the opportunity to yak incessantly at folks who visited), having this newfound flexibility is great and, will help to further the process on some important and exciting new fronts.Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing you all at our two upcoming Spring shows in West Michigan.

Please join us for a "HOWLING" good time raising money for local animal rescue and care for our friends at Wild Dog Bowtique, a local long-time favorite pet shop in Saugatuck featuring fun & functional stuff for pets & their people (www.wilddogonline.com). Lanie, Owner of Wild Dog Bowtique, is our local animal “angel” organizing year-around pet adopt-a-thons, and assisting local shelters with food donations and supplies, as well as adoption assistance.
The evening will feature several rescue groups and pets available for adoption (as well as cuddling and kisses!), and a few *surprise* visits from local animal experts, vets, boarders and keepers.
Fundraising games such as "Donate a Dollar to the Doggie Dish" and "Calling out for Kitty Kash", as well as a Silent Auction, Raffle Prizes, and 'Doggy Bags' for your critters at home, will help raise much needed funds for these animals seeking food, shelter, and permanent safe & loving homes. Wear your best animal apparel and you will automatically be entered into the “Critter Costume Contest” winning a pet themed gift basket for you & yours.
Michele Adrianse, Director of Satya Yoga Center, comments, “Each month we host a community fundraiser where 100% of the funds go directly to the cause. Wild Dog Bowtique would not turn away an animal deserving of care or a loving home. I cannot think of someone more deserving than Lanie, Owner of Wild Dog Bowtique, to be on the receiving end of this. She is relentless in her service to the animal kingdom, and many of us consider her to be our local “Animal Whisperer!”
If you have any questions, or would like to make a *much needed* contribution for the silent auction or raffle, please call Michele at (269) 857-7289, or via email satyayogami@yahoo.com.

LECTURES/CLASSES
About It! Lectures - A series of informal, informative talks about art, design, culture and our world. The Michigan Connection: The Art and Legacy of Diego Rivera, Rebecca R. Hart presenter. Thursday, April 16 | 7:00 PM Goodwill Donation.
Ms. Hart is an Associate Curator at the Detroit Institute of Arts, home to Rivera's remarkable “Detroit Industry” mural. Early in the Depression, Rivera was commissioned by Edsel Ford to create a series of murals in the gallery of the Detroit Institute of Arts – giant frescos whose theme would be America's industrial might. When installed in 1933, the murals created enormous buzz throughout the art world and among Detroit residents. Now, more than 75 years after its debut, the work continues to engender discussion and bring countless guests to the DIA.
Ms. Hart will discuss Rivera's place in the modern art world and the impact he continues to have on both Hispanic and non-Hispanic artists, and share insights into Rivera's conceptions about Michigan.

Jason Webley's shows are often much more than musical events. Stories, puppet shows and sing-alongs fill the spaces between songs. Webley's music- a mix of gypsy, folk and punk- traverses age and social background, drawing grandparents, children, punks, drunks, and lovers into the fold.

They grew up on Covert Road in Flint Michigan and grew up gospel! Drawing largely on three-part gospel harmonies, they bring a refreshing change from the vocally challenged bands of yesterday. Covert plays Rock and Roll with Gospel Soul. You can hear influences from genres like Reggae, Gospel, Bluegrass, Jazz, and Funk.

Saturday Apr. 11, 2009, 7:30 pm MARK DUVAL AND TRACI SUESS Time: 7:30 pm Tickets: $7 ($5 members; kids free). Tickets available at www.foundryhall.com, 800.838.3006, Wolverine Hardware, and at the door 30 minutes before show time. In the spring of 2006, Mark Duval emerged in Southwest Michigan from a 10-year musical hibernation with "Rhythm of the Rustbelt," his brilliant debut album, described by reviewer Dustin Walsh of Creem Magazine as "...the soundtrack to a summer sunrise over a dusty, forlorn Route 66." Duval's songwriting versatility takes the listener from haunted landscapes of brooding fingerstyle folk ballads to rhythm-driven roots rock social commentary, shuffling blues riffs and latin grooves.
