THIRDSTONE NEWS AND NOTES:

THIRDSTONE NEWS AND NOTES:
Greetin's everyone....Here's all the latest news from ThirdStone-Land in Funnville.

So, "what's up?" everyone seems to be asking lately....Well, LOTS! Some I'm gonna tellya's about here and some I'm gonna keepya in suspense about a little bit longer... I'm wrapping up my move from the downtown Gallery space this weekend. Having that complete will finally allow me to get to some of the other intriguing new ThirdStoned adventures that are comin' up soon. As for me, myself and I, I'll be staying right here in downtown Funnville. My home and studios and office will remain right where it's been; right above the current gallery at 120 East Main Street.

ThirdStone's next show will happen somewhere nearby (possibly VERY nearby) and that will be sometime in late February. Aside from being in a new location there'll be some rather different aspects to it that I'd love to spill the beans about (But not just yet) Details to be illuminated soonly though. Also, Another show, a special "collaborative" event, is being planned for St. Joe in March and you'll see more info on that soon as well.

And as for that moving sale.... it's pretty simple. the sale now moved to ITS new home - online! I'm still selling the remaining displays, fixtures, Lots of cool furniture, lamps, tables, vintage, fifties stuff, various tools, supplies etc. All items can still be seen here in Fennville; just let me know when you'd like to come.

See it all right here:

http://www.thirdstoneartgallery.com/for-sale-stuff.html

...and pass it along to others who might be interested in this sorta "stuff".. I'll be updating this page regularly so visit it any time for the latest additions. This has turned out to be so much fun that I'm going to keep this process going. With this move I've realized that I still have tons of antiques, vintage, collectibles and other cool stuff from my home, my studio and my storage that I want to put up for "adoption" to clear space. And if you'd like.advance notice before the weekly ads hit Craig's list and kijiji.com, just EMAIL ME to subscribe to the weekly update list. And, anytime you see something you like on that page, just email me or call me (269-561-8149) and we'll make arrangements for ya to see it in person at your convenience...

OTHER FUNNVILLE NEWS: NEW BUSINESS COMING TO TOWN SOON - located in the former ThirdStone space!
Yup! Many of you have been asking what's to become of the shop space that's been home to ThirdStone. I'm pleased to announce that there is now a great new business moving into the space very soon. I can't share the details quite yet but I CAN tell you that it's something very cool and unusual that I believe you'll all enjoy and, that it's being created FROM scratch by some very nice friendly folks. So, it appears that downtown Funnville will be percolating nicely this Spring

EVEN MORE FUNNVILLE NEWS: WANNA JOIN IN THE FUN ?? ANOTHER BUILDING IS NOW AVAILABLE!
That's right. Our friend Kym has just put on the market a large commercial building just across the street. Here's her info on it:
Cool as can be, you could own a piece of Funnville History! Charlie, (former owner of Dickinson Hardware), purchased a very nice building in downtown Fennville that his kids are now selling as part of his estate. It is the former home of Sonny's Pool Hall…a Funnville hangout for many a Fennvillian… (if only those walls could talk!) on the north east end of the main block…Main Street, between Alexander's Drug Store and Ray's Automotive.

Get in on the ground floor…(well, the only floor)…or maybe even, add a second! Akmost 3000 sq. ft. of floor space with a couple of divisions in place, including an office, utility room, and very large open spaces for your imagination to fill. Cool view of the trains hustling through town, and everyone else as well from this location. It hosts its own billboard (Dickinson Recreation) on the east side of the building, and since there is not an adjoining building on the east side upper level…your view could be spectacular! Priced fairly…at only $80K.

The event is open to the public and includes a glassblowing demonstration performance and refreshments. Water Street Glassworks is located in Benton Harbor's Arts District.

This unique interpretation is not only evident in their personal work, but is reflected in the popular glass 'performance' that has become a mainstay of their exhibition evening."

"We're glad, and feel privileged, to have the Art Institute students come to The Arts District for their off-campus study. We're eager to have the public see what their explorations have produced. DON'T FORGET - VOTE NOW - DEADLINE IS TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AT NOON: (VOTE FOR RHONDA!!)

Yes, THAT "other" election was over in early November but there's a different one I wanna tellya's about. Our pal Rhonda Larson is an amazing flutist and is entered in a very cool competition in which the winner gets to collaborate and record with world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Entrants submitted their adaptation of a selected composition for voters to select from. I spent a pleasant interlude the other day checking out the various entries and Rhonda's was clearly outstanding.
I'd like to ask you to consider giving her your vote and help her win this well-deserved and very cool opportunity.
SO....
Voting ends TOMORROW (this SATURDAY!), JANUARY 10, at noon eastern time. You can listen to Rhonda's and the other entries or, for those of you in a hurry and who've heard this talented musician before, you can just go and click your vote.; just takes a sec...
The link for voting and hearing her submission is: http://www.indabamusic.com/submissions/show/4681
After voting, their website sends you a confirmation email, which requires a quick reply.
and, If you're interested in knowing more about how Rhonda created her submission, that story is on her website at:
www.RhondaLarson.com/flute.htm
Let's see if we can help to get her enough votes to win!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Can it be true? Elvis and Peter Mars? Yup! plus...Peter Mars on Sirius!

ThirdStone's longtime fave and good friend, Chicago-based pop artist, Peter Mars signed a contract this past November with Elvis Presley Enterprises to be one of their official artists. Mars will be granted access to over 60,000 images of Elvis from the Graceland Archives and will create a new series of Elvis-inspired paintings to be sold through galleries and also appear on select officially licensed Elvis merchandise. http://www.elvis.com/news/full_story.asp?id=1686

On Saturday, January 9th Peter will be interviewed on Sirius Satellite radio announcing the opening of his "Portraits of Elvis" exhibit. This exhibit will be held at Graceland Mansion in Memphis. (Fact: did you know that Graceland Mansion is the second most visited private residence in the United States? The White House is first!)

One of Memphis' top art galleries, Jay Etkin Gallery, will also be hosting a reception for Peter on Friday, January 30th. Pete'll be down in Memphis for this show so come join in!

WATER STREET GLASSWORKS BEGINS CLASSES IN THE NEW YEAR

January 5 marks the opening of registration for glass classes at Water Street Glassworks located at 140-142 Water Street, Benton Harbor. Adults and teens can choose from beginning, intermediate or advanced glassblowing, glass fusing or beadmaking. Sessions meet afternoons, evenings and weekends beginning January 21 and continuing into April..

New and old workshops are offered. In the Build a Necklace one-day workshop Saturday March 14, glass artist Becky Wehmer and jewelry designer Angela Caldwell teach students to design and make glass beads then fashion them into a necklace using cord or wire. A Taste of Glass January 25 is a returning favorite where participants try their creative hand at the "sampler platter," making one paperweight, several beads and two fused glass pieces. Instructors Jerry Catania, Becky Wehmer and Carolyn O'Hearn are the guides through this fascinating adventure.

Super Value Valentine Saturday, February 7 provides something for anyone who wants to make a truly unique gift for a special person infused with hearts, flowers, ribbons and more. Experienced glassblowers can make paperweight, or glass eye candy (a goblet, vase or candy dish). Students with no experience can lock their love between sheets of fused glass in a valentine, suncatcher, pendant, votive or nightlight. Or in a class to warm your "beading heart" participants spend a winter day thinking thoughts of love and springtime while learning to design and decorate beads with hearts and flowers. Take two workshops in a day and get double the fun.

In Spin to Win, March 7, students use the principle of centrifugal force to create beautiful platters and bowls. Glass Flowers is lead by visiting artist Barbara Yerace on March 21. Students with beginning glassblowing experience will learn to create hand-blown and pinched flowers. Saturday and Sunday, April 4 and 5 master glassblower Jody Fine and his alter-ego Captain Marble will demonstrate the mysterious art of marble-making.

"There's something for everyone," says Glassworks Executive Director Dorris Akers. "We are happy to offer a broad selection of fun, exciting classes to make winter a creative adventure."
Water Street Glassworks is a Michigan non-profit organization located in Benton Harbor's Arts District. Contact 269-925-5555 or check out the website and/or download a class schedule: www.waterstreetglassworks.org.
