GLENN MICHIGAN BECOMES AN OLD FASHIONED WINTER WONDERLAND - FRIDAY NOV. 28
On Friday, November 28, 2008, at 6:00 pm, St Nicholas riding in a horse drawn red and white surrey will arrive at the big tree in the GLENN SQUARE in downtown Glenn. St Nicholas will light the big tree as local residents, friends and visitors sing Christmas carols. Everyone is welcome and admission is free for this old fashioned celebration.

It will be a magical evening as the entire village of Glenn will be aglow with twinkling white lights in dozens of fresh Christmas trees.Following the tree-lighting, St. Nicholas will lead the procession through candy cane lane to the Methodist Church where home baked cookies and hot chocolate will be served while the Strudel Meisters, a local German Band, entertain with Christmas carols and a community sing-a-long.

St Nicholas will talk to the children with his elves in attendance.
An old fashioned gingerbread house will be raffled off at the church during the sing-a-long.

Five years ago the late William Erby Smith had a dream to see the quaint town of Glenn, also known as the "Pancake Town," illuminated at Christmas time. Through his and brother Mark Smith's generosity, the Circle of Lights began in 2002. Through the continued support of Mark Smith and many community volunteers the wonderful tradition continues.

This year, a festive Glenn Christmas walk will be featured before and after the Circle of Lights Celebration with local, in town businesses having open houses with refreshments. The Glenn School, the oldest fully operational, two-room schoolhouse in Michigan, will be hosting a bake sale that evening. The Carriage House will also be open for viewing of the collection of antique sleighs and buggies. A photographer will be on hand to take family pictures in an antique sleigh in front of the Carriage House.

2009 calendars will be for sale featuring antique pictures of Glenn. Proceeds help support the Circle of Lights Celebration
Fresh Christmas trees will be available in Glenn .Glenn is off I-96, off Exit 30, south on Blue Star Highway to Glenn.
